Estimate the jar
Fill a jar with anything. They estimate. Then count. The gap is the lesson.

How to do it
Fill a clear jar with beans, pennies, Lego, whatever. Both of you write an estimate on paper before counting. Count by tens. Whoever is closer picks dessert tomorrow. Talk about how they decided — did they count a layer? Did they guess?
