Build a baking-soda volcano in the backyard
Loud, foamy, faintly dangerous. Always works.
45 min ages 6–10· Outdoor· Screen-free
How to do it
Shape a mound of modeling clay around an empty water bottle so it looks like a volcano. Inside the bottle: two tablespoons baking soda and a few drops of food coloring. Outside, put it on a baking tray. Pour vinegar in, step back, narrate the eruption. Then ask: why did it fizz? (Acid + base = CO₂.) Run it twice — it works better the second time.
